Philip Kuzmanovic – born in the Queensland mining town of Mount Isa has excelled at performing in local theatre and in film. His exceptional ability for memorising vast quantities of dialogue has awarded him leading roles in many stage productions of varying genres.
Philip’s beginnings as an actor saw him perform in leading comedic roles such as Henry Lodge in Move Over Mrs Markham, Lane in The Importance of Being Ernest and Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing. Philip perfected his performance as the heinous villain Iago in Shakespeare’s Othello, by way of pushing the boundaries of character development, allowing him to successfully depict an evil and sadistic lunatic. This depiction gained him outstanding audience reviews where they were quoted as saying “not even Kenneth Branagh could have done a better job”.
Philip's versatility on stage was highlighted during his multi-character performance during The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza. He portrayed five characters simultaneously, requiring him to adopt nuanced and authentic personas for each character, therefore displaying his ability to successfully adapt on stage at an instant.
Philip expanded into television and film with a short period of time in New York studying at the New York Film Academy to gain the artistry of performing in front of a camera. The intensive program involved working with some of Americas best acting coaches as well as working opposite talented and creative actors which gave him the exciting opportunity to film amongst New York City’s most iconic backdrops.
Returning to Australia with a new, abundant tool kit in acting lead to what has been described as the pinnacle performance of his acting career to date in the dramatic stage production of Todd, playing the lead role of Sweeney Todd. His portrayal of the deranged psychopath drew audiences into a performance that can only be described as "outstandingly chilling". Philip never follows the norm when portraying his characters and believes in giving his audiences no resemblance to ‘how it’s been done before’. His ability to reinvent the audience’s familiarity with the play is unrivalled.
